A mixture of baits offered in the margins proved irresistible!

Plymouth rod Tom Purdy chose peg 6 for a bit of stalking and took two Carp in quick succession from the margins. Cell boilies topped with corn producing the goods!

Pete Lake fished from peg 6 and managed to place his baits where only bait boats go!!
The effort of getting his bait to the right spot paid off when he banked his personal best Linear Carp of 18lbs 8oz which fell to a Plum boilie!

Visitor Paul Richards chose peg 1 and banked his first Catfish of 22lbs 4oz and a superb condition Ghostie of 21lbs 9oz! All Richard’s fish fell to homemade garlic boilies!

On the top Match Lake sport was also good with Carp and Silvers responding well in the unsettled weather conditions.

The Dam wall saw anglers taking Carp in numbers with bags of 100lbs plus not uncommon!
Some large Carp have come to the bank and anglers have reported how much weight the fish have gained over recent years. The average has gone up from the 4lbs 8oz mark to 7lbs plus!!

Rod Metcalfe took up to 20 fish to 12lbs during several short visits with coarse pellet the main bait. Metcalfe also used the “dobbin” method to great effect. Bread bait is weighted with a shot near the hook so the bread sinks slowly down in the water. On the right day this method cannot fail!

Bream have showed in numbers with some large fish reported falling to pellet or meat.

Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 23/6

As the hot sunny weather continued it wasn’t just the anglers who were sunbathing at Town Parks Fishery this week! The Carp were somewhat elusive as the temperatures soared into the high twenty’s!

Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 15/6

Towards the end of the week both lakes at Town Parks Fishery saw the fish spawning.
Before the spawning commenced fishing was good with plenty of fish coming to the net on both lakes.

On the top Match Lake Carp spent the warmer days sunbathing on the surface with the fish responding to “floaters”. As the sun dropped the fish moved to the margins and anglers fishing within a few feet of the foliage found them feeding well!

Rod Metcalfe fished the “dobbing” method with his bread bait sinking slowly with the weight of a small shot attached near the hook. The Carp seized the bait as the bread dropped past them and up to 20 fish per session came to the net!

The Fishery held its annual “Carers Day” in lovely sunshine. Organised by Torbay Council the day gives Carers in the community a chance to fish and relax away from their usual routines. Silvers showed in numbers with everybody taking fish with maggots.

On the Specimen Lake the Catfish carried on feeding whilst the Carp got on with spawning.
Once again Pete Lake was in the action when he hooked and banked a Cat of 27lbs whilst fishing for Bream on very light gear!

On peg 7 Plymouth rod John Lamble celebrated after targeting and banking his personal best Cat of 29lbs 2oz!

Also into the Cats were Trevor and Alan Ogden. Fishing from 3 on his birthday Alan banked a beauty of 23lbs 8oz which was his first Cat while Trevor, on 5 also banked his first at 20lbs dead!

Carp also showed with best of the week a fine Ghostie Common of 23lbs 9oz taken from peg 14 by visitor Graham Sloan.

With spawning now over the fish will come back on the feed with some great sport expected over the coming weeks!

Up on the Match Lake sport was also good.

Travis Heyward fished an overnighter from peg 1 and was rewarded with 15 Carp including his personal best of 9lbs 10oz! All Heywards fish fell to Mainline Hybrid offered in the reeded margins.

Tim Slim netted a fine bag of Carp from peg 10 on 6mm pellet whilst visitor Phil Jifford took an estimated 100lbs bag of Silvers from peg 12.

With school holidays upon us there were plenty of younger anglers enjoying the sport. Silvers responded well to maggot offered up in the water while Carp and Bream took pellet or small chunks of luncheon meat offered a little deeper!

The Lake has had some more maintenance to the islands and margins with much of the overhanging branches and bushes cut back to allow better access for anglers baits!
