Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 29/1

The Specimen Lake has been producing great sport at Town Parks Fishery this week. Anglers working their swims hard have been rewarded with some very good fish.

Local rod Lee Jones fished a white chocolate boilie over a small bed of bait and banked four Carp. Fish of 23lbs 9oz, 22lbs 4oz, 18lbs 9oz and 15lbs 3oz came to the scales during a frantic night time session. Jones fished peg 2 laying his baits next to the small island to the left of the swim.

Colin Delany also visited peg 2 later in the week and took an immaculate Common which tipped the scales at 24lbs 1oz. The fish fell to a single bait offered near the central bar.

Delany’s fishing partner Matt Everill also had a good session, this time from peg 14.
Everill banked three Carp to 16lbs 2oz and also lost another larger fish during a two hour afternoon spell! Once again the fish fell to a single bait.

Plymouth rod Chris White fished peg 12 placing his bait tight to the reeds in the margin. During his 24hr session White banked five Carp the best a nice Leather of 20lbs 2oz which fell to a coconut pop up!

The top Match Lake also saw anglers taking good bags.

Roach continued to come to maggot and castor whilst Bream returned to the feed after a recent absence.

Carp fell to pellet along the dam wall and good sport was had from peg 10 fishing towards the main island.

With colder weather forecast the Silvers will probably go a little deeper in the water.

Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 22/1

Changeable weather conditions saw anglers testing different baits to attract the fish at Town Parks Fishery this week.

Baits that produced good bags one day failed to get a bite the next!!

The Match Lake, in particular fished better for anglers who did their watercraft and varied baits.

Brian Roberts moved around the lake during a day session and managed to attract Carp to the 9lbs mark on various baits although sweet corn did particularly well!

Roach are still up in the water with junior anglers using whips taking fish on maggot to 2lbs.

Bream have been a little elusive with only a few catches reported.

On the lower Specimen Lake fishing proved testing although many anglers reported fish moving around most pegs.

Dave Pierce did manage to bank a Carp after numerous runs throughout a night session. The Common tipped the scales at 19lbs 9oz and fell for a white chocolate boilie offered mid water from peg 14.

Catfish are still moving around with Steve Roberts fighting one, described as “very large” all the way to the net only to loose the fish as it pulled the hook! A large 30mm mixed flavour boilie proved irresistible!

Some very large Roach have been banked by various day anglers targeting Silvers around the lake. Castor and maggot continue to be the best bait although some fish have taken small hookable pellets!

Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 15/1

Settled weather conditions produced ideal Winter fishing at Town Parks this week.

On the lower Specimen Lake anglers enjoyed good sport with fish moving and feeding freely.

Local rod Tom Purdy fished overnight on peg 10 and was rewarded with several fish including a fine personal best Carp of 24lbs 2oz which has not been seen on the bank before. The fish fell for maggot fished on a maggot clip, tipped with a small corn pop up close to the island. Despite having “knocks” all night the fish was taken as the sun rose.

Plymouth rod Tom Purdy banked this beautiful mirror carp, his personal best, from peg 10 at Town Parks Fishery. The fish, one of several taken during the session, tipped the scales at 24lbs 2oz and fell to a loaded maggot clip tipped with sweetcorn and fished midwater.

Somerset angler Chris Mayer fished a white chocolate boilie mid water in front of peg 14 and took a beautiful Leather Carp almost immediately. The fish tipped the scales at 21lbs 4oz and was reported to be in very good condition.

Catfish are still moving around due to the continuing warm spell although many throw the baits as soon as any pressure is applied!

The top Match Lake has continued to produce good bags of mixed silvers from
around the 3 foot depth.

Tony Schiano fished a short morning session from peg 20 with maggot and bagged a good 30lbs worth of Roach and Rudd.

Carp have shown from various pegs around the lake, pegs 10 and 1 providing particularly good sport.

Local rod Phil Hastings fished an overnighter on 10 and took 8 Carp to double figures. All fish fell to sweetcorn fished on the bottom near the island.

Town Parks Fishing Catch Report w/e 8/1

Plenty of Silvers are showing from both lakes at Town Parks Fishery.
Some large Roach to the 2lbs 10oz mark have been taken up in the water on maggot!

The unusually high temperatures are playing their part with fish feeding freely.
Carp have also shown on the upper Match Lake especially from the tall reeds between pegs 1 and 20. The North Westerly winds have obviously blown some freebies into this corner of the lake as some very good mixed bags have also been reported from these pegs.

On the Specimen Lake fishing has been a little slower although fish have been banked.

Local rod Rob Green fished a 24hr session on peg 10 and was rewarded with three Carp on the bank to 19lbs 10oz. A white chocolate boilie popped up with a coconut pop up and fished mid water proved irresistible.

Somerset rod Dave Hewing visited peg 5 for a day session and banked a beautiful linear Carp of 21lbs 4oz just as the daylight faded. The fish fell to a Cell boilie offered in the margins of the bay beside the peg.

Catfish are still moving around with many anglers reporting baits being picked up and moved around only to find nothing when the line is struck!

Settled conditions look set to provide very good sport from both lakes over the coming week.
