Catfish and Carp remained very active on the Specimen Lake
at Town Parks Fishery this week.
Nick Solomon had a good night on peg 15 taking two Cats, the
best a fine 34lbs 3oz beauty.
A mixture of baits offered in the margins proved
irresistible!
Plymouth rod Tom Purdy chose peg 6 for a bit of stalking and
took two Carp in quick succession from the margins. Cell boilies topped with
corn producing the goods!
Pete Lake fished from peg 6 and managed to place his baits
where only bait boats go!!
The effort of getting his bait to the right spot paid off
when he banked his personal best Linear Carp of 18lbs 8oz which fell to a Plum
boilie!
Visitor Paul Richards chose peg 1 and banked his first
Catfish of 22lbs 4oz and a superb condition Ghostie of 21lbs 9oz! All Richard’s
fish fell to homemade garlic boilies!
On the top Match Lake sport was also good with Carp and
Silvers responding well in the unsettled weather conditions.
The Dam wall saw anglers taking Carp in numbers with bags of
100lbs plus not uncommon!
Some large Carp have come to the bank and anglers have
reported how much weight the fish have gained over recent years. The average
has gone up from the 4lbs 8oz mark to 7lbs plus!!
Rod Metcalfe took up to 20 fish to 12lbs during several
short visits with coarse pellet the main bait. Metcalfe also used the “dobbin”
method to great effect. Bread bait is weighted with a shot near the hook so the
bread sinks slowly down in the water. On the right day this method cannot fail!
Bream have showed in numbers with some large fish reported
falling to pellet or meat.
