Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 28/4


Excellent sport on the Specimen Lake at Town Parks Fishery saw anglers enjoying their first Catfish and personal best weights! With the water temperature reaching 16 degrees the fish went on a feeding frenzy!

On peg 12 local rod Andy Webster fished his first session of the year and banked some cracking fish. First on the bank was a fine Catfish of 28lbs 3oz which was followed by a superb Common Carp of 25lbs 4oz and then another Cat of 24lbs 2oz. Webster fished Halibut pellets around the margins and mid water in front of the peg!

Local rod Andy Webster made his first trip of the year to Town Parks Fishery and  showed he had not lost his touch. Webster banked three superb fish including two Catfish of 28lbs 3oz and 24lbs 2oz topped off with a fine Common of 25lbs 4oz! All the fish fell to halibut pellet.

On peg 11 Rob Boyne ended a lean run of fish by banking 4 fish, all cats of 18lbs 5oz, 19lbs 6oz, 20lbs 2oz and a fine 24lbs 2oz all taken on worm!

Local rod Rob Boyne ended a lean spell in great fashion banking four superb fish including this fine Catfish of 24lbs 2oz at Town Parks Fishery. Boynes fish fell to worm offered on the float.

Peg 10 saw local rod Lee Hunt take a superb Fishery record Bream of 12lbs 0oz! The fish fell to a sweet boilie offered mid water which also attracted Common Carp of 15lbs 8oz and 16lbs 3oz, Mirror Carp of 20lbs 1oz and 22lbs 8oz and a Catfish of 17lbs 4oz!

Lee Hunt fished from peg 10 at Town Parks Fishery and netted this Fishery record Bream which tipped the scales at 12lbs 0oz. The fish fell for a sweet flavoured boilie offered mid water.

Lee Hunt banked this Mirror Carp of 16lbs 3oz from peg 10 at Town Parks Fishery. The fish, one of several during the session fell to a sweet flavoured boilie.

Dale Churchward banked a lovely condition Common from peg 7 which fell for a Passion Baits test boilie!

Town Parks Regular Dale Churchward fished a Passion Baits boilie from peg 7 and was rewarded with this fine Common Carp.

Many Catfish have come to the bank including a fine specimen of 27lbs 3ozs which fell to a float fished maggot from peg 8!

The top Match Lake also fished well, although sporadically, with some good bags reported.

Silvers came to the net falling to maggot and castor offered up in the water.

Some good Tench to the 6lbs mark have been reported from shallower pegs as well as some good sized Bream all falling to corn or pellet.

Roddy Metcalf took Carp from the dam wall during several visits banking several each time.

Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 21/4


With water temperatures rising in the fine weather, fishing conditions were ideal at Town Parks Fishery this week.

On the lower Specimen Lake, Catfish showed in numbers after their long Winter sleep!

Torquay rod Gordon Batt had a battle with a fine Cat which tipped the scales at 24lbs 2oz.
The fish fell to maggots offered in the shallows of peg 6.

Torquay angler Gordon Batt battled to net this fine Catfish of 24lbs 1oz which fell to maggots fished in front of peg 6 at Town Parks Fishery.

Plymouth rod Steve Symonds chose peg 1 and fished Cell boilies placed close to the island.
Symonds banked his first Catfish at 15lbs 4oz and also netted a good Carp of 19lbs 7oz, a personal best!

Mark Warren took two Cat’s, the best 19lbs 3oz which fell for maggot.

Marldon rod John Connabeer fished overnight from peg 6 and banked three cracking Carp, all good doubles with the best at 22lbs 10oz. All the fish fell to 10mm Cell boilies offered midwater.

Paignton rod John Connabeer had a great session on peg 6 at Town Parks Fishery banking three double figure Carp including this fine Mirror of 22lbs 10oz. The fish fell to a Cell boilie offered mid water.

 Olly Barnett banked a 15lbs 4oz Common from the margins of peg 9.

Local rod Dan Wayne fished a Halo pop up from peg 10 at Town Parks Fishery and was rewarded with this fine condition Common Carp of 14lbs 7oz.

 On the top Match Lake some very good bags of Silvers were reported.

Two anglers had nets in excess of 60lbs taken from the dam wall area. Carp also come to the bank.

Norfolk angler Jim Stevens fished corn from peg 1 tight to the margin reeds. Stevens netted 8 Carp to double figures during his day session.

A party for Paignton Community College enjoyed great sport during a tutored session catching numerous Roach, Rudd and Perch. One lucky student hooked into, and landed a Common Carp of 4lbs 2oz which fell to a small piece of sweetcorn offered towards the main island.

Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 14/4


The fishing improved further as the temperatures rose at Town Parks Fishery this week.

On the Specimen Lake, sport was excellent with some fine fish coming to the net!

Jake Williams fished an overnighter from peg 9 and was rewarded with his first Catfish, a mid twenty specimen which took a filled maggot clip!

Local rod Jake Williams chose maggot to tempt this huge mid twenty’s Catfish taken from peg 9 at Town Parks Fishery. The fish put up a good struggle before reaching the net!

 Four Cat’s have come to the bank during the week but exact details were not left with the fishery!

On peg 12 local rod Malcolm Cutts had a great session banking his first fish at Town Parks after a lean spell at other fisheries. First to the net was an excellent Mirror which tipped the scales at 21lbs 1oz followed by a lovely condition Common of 17lbs 1oz. Both fish fell to a sweet flavoured boilie offered in the margins.

Local rod Malcolm Cutts banked this fine Mirror Carp of 17lbs 1oz from peg 12 at Town Parks Fishery. The fish, one of a brace, fell to a sweet boilie offered in the margins.
This fine condition Common Carp fell to the rod of Malcolm Cutts fishing peg 12 at Town Parks Fishery. The fish tipped the scales at 17lbs 1oz and was one of two fish banked!

 Newton Abbot rod Steve Owen chose peg 13 for a session and banked 12 double figure Carp, all taken on Cell boilies to 16lbs 4oz. Owen also took a good Tench of 6lbs 8oz.

Dave Grylls fished from peg 16 and netted six Carp to 15lbs 8oz whilst local rod Nick Solomon chose peg 12 and took two Carp on Cell boilies, the best a Common of 16lbs 3oz.

This Common of 16lbs 3oz was netted by Dave Grylls from peg 16 at Town Parks Fishery. The fish, one of six taken, fell to a Cell boilie offered mid water. 

Town Parks Fishery regular Dave Grylls had a cracking session from peg 16 banking 6 Carp including this fine Leather of 16lbs 1oz!

Matt Feakes banked four Carp from peg 5 whilst Torquay rod Paul Winstanley took a good Tench of 6lbs 9oz from peg 15 and a Common of 16lbs 4oz.

Matt Feakes banked this lovely Linear Carp from peg 5 at Town Parks Fishery. The fish fell to a Cell boilie offered mid water and was one of four Carp taken during his session.

Torquay rod Paul Winstanley had a great session from peg 15 at Town Parks Fishery banking numerous fish including this fine Linear of 16lbs 4oz. Winstanley also took a good Tench of 6lbs 9oz!


On the top Match Lake Conor Nettleton fished a 36hr session from peg 1. Fishing 10mm Cell boilies close to the margins Nettleton banked a very impressive 32 Carp!

Silvers continue to fall to maggot and castor with some very good bags reported from various pegs

Youngsters attending a tutored session took some good sized Roach and Perch from deeper water pegs!

Saturday see’s the funeral of Town Parks fisherman Jack Oakden. The service takes place at Churston Parish Church at 11.00 a.m. Donations for The Fire Fighters Charity and the Childrens Skill School at Town Parks Fishery can be made at the Fishery shop!

Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 7/4


Town Parks Fishery was shocked and saddened by the news of the sudden death of long time angler Jack Oakden. Jack fished regularly at the Fishery with his faithful spaniel Bellen by his side. He was also a member of the shop and tuition staff.

Jack was very highly regarded by everyone he met with his wealth of experience and friendly personality - he will be sadly missed!

The Fishery extends their best wishes to Jack’s wife and family at this sad time.

On the lower Specimen Lake some excellent sport was enjoyed during the more settled days.

Matt Skelley enjoyed a fantastic session from peg 6 during a sunny day banking four Carp and loosing another three! Skelley’s fish were all in the low to mid twenty range and fell for a sweet boilie offered tight in the margins.

Matt Skelly fished peg 6 at Town Parks Fishery banking four Carp in the mid twenty pound range. Skelly also lost three more fish before they reached the net.

Local rod Matt Skelly fished peg 6 at Town Parks Fishery and banked four Carp, all in the mid twenty pounds range including this fine Common and lost three more fish!

Meanwhile on peg 12 John Clarkson cast out a couple of maggot under a waggler to tempt some Roach. As the maggot sank the bait was seized by something much bigger than a Roach. After an extended battle on 6lbs line a fine Mirror Carp of 20lbs 1oz was in the net!

Kingsbridge rod John Clarkson fished for Silvers with maggot from peg 12 on the Specimen Lake at Town Parks Fishery. Much to his surprise his bait was seized by this cracking 20lbs 1oz Carp which took the bait as it dropped through the water! Clarkson landed the fish on 6lbs line!

Conor Nettleton banked a fine condition Linear Carp from peg 12. The fish fell to a Cell boilie offered in the margins.

Carl Chappell fished from peg 14 and netted a good Common which tipped the scales at 18lbs 1oz!

Junior Oakley Hunt fished a Silvers session from peg 3 and was rewarded with a very good Roach around the 2lbs mark!

Local junior Oakley Hunt fished for Silvers form peg 3 on the Specimen Lake at Town Parks Fishery and was rewarded with this fine 2lbs plus Roach.

On the top Match Lake, sport was more sporadic with the fish going on and off the feed.
Roach did show in numbers taking maggot and castor offered around half depth.
Carp came to the bank from the margins of pegs 1 and 14!

Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 31/3


Bitter Easterly winds coupled with very low temperatures provided difficult fishing conditions at Town Parks Fishery, that said, some good fish still came to the net!

On the Specimen Lake Conor Nettleton chose peg 12 with the wind on his back to fish the reed’s in the margins. Nettleton banked two Carp, a good Leather of 14lbs 9oz and a Common and also lost another much larger fish at the net! The Leather fell to a Japanese Squid boilie whilst the Common took a Cell pop up!

Local rod Conor Nettleton chose peg 12 at Town Parks Fishery to fish the margins. Nettleton was rewarded with two good Carp including this fine condition Leather Carp which fell for a Japanese Squid Boilie.

Once again Mark Warren found the fish taking  a good Ghostie from peg 10. Korda’s new Caramel Goo over a toffee boilie tempted the fish.

Due to the very unseasonal weather conditions the students from Paignton Community College were switched to the lower Lake to stay out of the wind during their tutored session.
It was a good move as all the students banked Roach and Perch on maggot with some of the Roach touching the 2lbs 8oz mark!   

Meanwhile on the top Match Lake the wind played a part with some pegs unfishable due to the strength and windchill!

Paul (Winston) Winstanley fished several sessions accompanied by wife Karen with both banking Carp and very good bags of Silvers. Paul’s son Matt also came along for his first go at the sport. After some tips from his old man, Matt hooked into an excellent first fish, a Ghost Common of 12lbs! The fish fell to a white pop up coated in Almond Goo!

Cornwall rod Mike Green visited peg 14 with girlfriend Sue and fished maggot close to the reeds adjacent to the outflow. During their afternoon session the couple banked 8 Carp, the best around the 9lbs mark.

Brixham rod Mike Gorman fished pellet on the bottom from peg 5 and was rewarded with 9 Carp to 14lbs!
