Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 27/5

Great sport was reported from both lakes at Town Parks Fishery this week.

Undoubted catch of the week was by Plymouth rod Alan Day fishing peg 5 on the Specimen Lake.

Day was float fishing for Roach with corn when he hooked into something big!
After a 25 minute master class of “how to play a fish” Day had a 26lbs 2oz Catfish on the bank. What made the catch so remarkable was the fact that Day was using a 12ft match rod with 5lb main line, a 4lb hooklink and size 14 hook!

Luckily the fish was hooked in the corner of it’s mouth just clear of it’s pads which would have almost certainly parted the line. This was Days first ever Catfish and personal best weight.

Plymouth rod Alan Day held a masterclass in fishing at Town Parks Fishery showing everyone how to bank a 26lbs 20z Catfish with a 12ft match rod, 5lb line and 4lbs hooklink to a size 14 hook. The fish fell to sweetcorn fished on the waggler form peg 5.

Other notable catches this week were a fine 25lbs 4oz Mirror brought to the bank by Somerset rod Tim Reynolds who fished a Cell boilie from peg 14.

Jamie Greatorex celebrated his 13th birthday taking his first ever fish, a Roach followed by numerous others eventually banking his first Catfish of 2lbs!!

Olly Barnett banked a couple of Carp from peg two fishing imitation foam pop ups!

Andrew Willison visited from the USA and banked his first Carp. The ghostie tipped the scales at 14lbs 14oz!

American visitor Andrew Willison visited peg 3 at Town Parks Fishery and banked his first UK Carp a nice Ghostie of 14lbs 14oz.

Two visiting anglers, John and Sean, visited peg 15 for 24 hours and caught 3 mirrors freelining luncheon meat on size 10 hooks. As they netted the second mirror, imagine their surprise to find a second mirror of similar size was in the net as well!

Sophie, Haley and Kelsey Batt fished a whip with dad Gordon and took over 21lbs of Silvers on maggot.

The top Match Lake provided good bags of Carp and Silvers although spawning took place and knocked them off the feed at times.

The annual Seafield Anglers versus The Derbyshire Dabblers memorial match took place in overcast conditions. Fishing proved difficult at times but fish did come to the scales resulting with the Dabblers taking the trophy for the second year running!
Carp were taken from the surface with biscuit in numbers with up to 31 fish reported banked during a single session!

Fish on both lakes have now spawned so sport should return to normal by the weekend.

Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 20/5

Anglers continued to enjoy excellent sport at Town Parks Fishery this week.
Both Lakes produced fish which fed freely.

On the Specimen Lake Catfish were on the prowl. Tristan Smith stalked around pegs 7 and 8 around 4 am casting worm into the margin. Within minutes he hooked into a very large Cat which ran out into mid water. After a long battle Smith got the fish into the net only for the line to snap and the fish slid out! Having recently banked a 38lbs Cat Smith estimated this fish was in the low to mid 40’s!

Neal Haslam banked his personal best Carp from peg 11 weighing 23lbs 2oz.
Haslam was fishing a 30mm XXL boilie which was intended for Catfish!

Local rod Neil Haslam visited peg 11 at Town Parks Fishery and was rewarded with this fine, personal best Carp. The fish tipped the scales at 23lbs 3oz and fell for a 30mm XXL boilie.

Kevin Locke visited peg 10 for an overnighter and was rewarded with 8 Carp and a Catfish which all fell to sweetcorn.

Dave Grylls banked a beautiful Ghostie from peg 14 which tipped the scales at 19lbs 3oz.

Scott Farrar also took a good Ghostie, this time from peg 1.

Mark Hughes took this excellent condition Common Carp from peg one 1 at Town Parks Fishery. The fish weighed in at 22lbs 1oz and fell to a Cell boilie offered tight to the main island.

Dave Osmond continued to bank fish from peg 6.    Six 20lbs + fish came to the bank during various short sessions.

Town Parks Fishery regular Dave Osmond visited peg 6 and took a number of 20lbs+ carp. This fish fell to maggot offered under the willow tree and weighed 22lbs 4oz.

The top Match Lake saw Carp coming to the bank in numbers.

Once again Rod Metcalf lead the way taking 21 Carp on the pellet waggler during a 4 hour morning session. Metcalf improved on this taking 30 Carp to 9lbs the following morning! All the fish fell for coarse pellet offered around the 4 foot mark.

Bream came to sweetcorn with some good sized fish reported.

Silvers took maggot and were well up in the water on the sunnier days.
