Well, winter’s finally here!
The match lake produced several decent bags of silvers, notably from pegs 20 and 14. Most fell to maggot fished shallow at close quarters. Several prime condition carp were caught from peg 18 on the dam wall, all of which were caught on 11mm coarse pellet.
A party from South Devon College visited the match lake this week and thoroughly enjoyed themselves catching small carp and silvers from pegs 9 to 14.
The specimen lake also reported good bags of silvers, with one angler catching 97 fish, the biggest approx 2lbs, from peg 7, using nothing but a whip!
Jason Mammond banked a 12lb mirror from peg 1, which was tempted with a cell boilie.
Father and daughter team, Alan and Abbie fished pegs 9 and 10. Abbie banked her personal best carp at 15lbs 8oz. The fish fell to luncheon meat offered mid water.
The water temperature at present is at 13 degrees, which explains why the catfish are still prowling the lake and keeping anglers awake at night! If this temperature remains stable, there’s a good chance that a decent catfish might be banked before the winter settles them down!
