With the ice clear on both lakes at Town Parks Fishing the anglers flocked in after their enforced break!
Both lakes fished well, particularly the top Match Lake.
Plenty of fish came to the bank although feeding was sporadic at times and bait choice was important.
Roach immediately started feeding after the freeze and large bags were taken from deeper water pegs.
Taking red maggot some sizeable fish came to the bank.
Richard McMahon fished peg 16 and after a blank period ledgering towards the bar he switched to his pole. Fishing at 11mts he immediately took large Skimmers which he continued to take throughout the day on single red maggot. McMahon’s keep net hit the 45lbs mark and this was complimented with a couple of sizeable Carp!
Kingswear rod Richard Ward fished peg 17 and also connected with the Carp. Fishing 7mm coarse pellet on the bottom Ward’s best was a fine 5lbs 8oz Common.
The lower Specimen Lake proved more testing with fish taking baits but throwing them as soon as any pressure was applied.
Three anglers described bites and runs they had and, amazingly these appeared to be exactly the same as Catfish takes. With the water temperature so low at this time of year roaming Catfish would be unlikely but it is possible that some have woken up now that the ice cover has gone!
Yearly Season Tickets are now available and throughout January the fishery is offering a 10% discount. Contact the Fishery shop or ring 01803 523133 for details.
