Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 24/2


Catches continued to “buck the trend” at Town Parks Fishery this week with good fish still coming to the bank!

The Match Lake saw anglers enjoying good bags of Silvers and Carp. Carp took coarse pellet and sweetcorn at various depths and Silvers fell to maggot, castor and luncheon meat.
Once again regular Rod Metcalf found the Carp feeding around various pegs. At times the Carp were up in the water taking corn.

Peg 1 provided good sport with six Carp to double figures banked from the margin towards peg 20.

Plenty of Silvers came to the net, one angler reporting Roach to the 2lbs 8oz mark with nothing under 1lbs 8oz!

Junior angler Hannah Glendall fished a session with dad Paul offering sweetcorn on the float. After a short while the float went under and Hannah managed to net her first Carp of 3lbs 8oz!

On the Specimen Lake good sport was had mainly from the deeper water pegs.
Regular Nick Solomon fished Cell pop up’s from peg 10 and banked four Carp to 16lbs 3oz and also lost a couple of larger fish!

Nick Solomon fished peg 10 at town Parks Fishery and banked four Carp, losing a couple more! This fine condition Common tipped the scales at 16lbs 3oz and fell to a Cell pop up offered near the main island.

The fish were taken close to the main island.

Gordon Batt banked a superb condition Ghostie from peg 13. The fish took a Cell boilie tipped with sweetcorn and weighed in at 20lbs 1oz.

Local rod Gordon Batt fished Cell boilies from peg 13 at Town Parks Fishery and was rewarded with this superb condition Ghost Carp of 20lbs 1oz.

Andy Handshaw fished a short session from peg 2 and banked a lower double Mirror from mid water.

With continued settled weather the fishing should remain excellent.

Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 17/2


Good sport continues on both lakes at Town Parks Fishery with more settled weather expected.

The upper Match Lake saw anglers taking good bags of Carp and Silvers more especially from deeper water pegs.

Catch of the week was undoubtedly a superb Crucian Carp caught by Kingsbridge rod Richard Clarkson which tipped the scales at 5lbs 8oz! The current British record stands at 4lbs 9oz and the Fishery is awaiting official confirmation of the catch from Anglers Mail!
During the same session Clarkson also banked 9 Carp, the best a fine Ghostie of 12lbs 2oz.
All the fish fell to sweetcorn or luncheon meat offered by the inflow from peg 7.

Once again Roddy Metcalf found the fish during several short visits Carp falling to pellet offered mid depth and some good Skimmers taking maggot and castor.
  
On the Specimen Lake the first Catfish of the year hit the bank!

Town Parks regular Mark Warren fished a green lime/choc hellraiser boilie from peg 16 when he connected with the fish just after sunrise. Warren immediately realised the fish was a Cat so let the fish tire itself out before bringing it to the net.The fish tipped the scales at 19lbs 2oz!

Town Parks Fishery regular Mark Warren fished from peg 16 and realised the run was a Catfish. Warren battled the fish, which took a green lime/choc hellraiser boilie, for over 15 minutes to bring the fish to the net! 

Regular Matt Feakes fished peg 9 whilst fishing partner Steve Jones set up his newly acquired rods and reels on the next peg. As he rested the rods on his pod and returned to his car to collect bait his alarm screamed off and Feakes had to play the fish to the net!
It turned out that the previous owner had left a boilie on the hair which the fish took from six inches in front of the peg!!! 

Town Parks regular Matt Feakes banked this fine condition Mirror Carp from peg 8. The fish took a boilie form six inches in front of the peg after the bait was dropped in before casting!!

Plymouth rod Dennis Assall visited peg 4 for the first time in 15 years! Fishing a Cell dumbbell popped up with dayglow corn, Assall ended the session banking a double figure Common.

Dave Grylls fished from 10 and had a couple of runs eventually banking a double figure Mirror.

The Winter maintenance programme is well underway. The large willow tree behind peg 7 on the Specimen Lake has been felled due to Health and Safety concerns. Once felled it transpired that the tree was rotten throughout the centre!!

The banks behind pegs 1 to 6 on the Match Lake are also being cleared to remove any snags when casting.

The seating area outside the shop is due to be completed by Easter.

Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 10/2


The Match Lake at Town Parks Fishery continued to provide good sport for anglers braving the conditions. Carp were on the feed especially along the deeper dam wall pegs.

Regular Brian Toy chose peg 15 for a day session casting his halibut pellet towards the small island. After an hour of no bites Toy moved his bait near the reeds surrounding the outflow. During the next hour four Carp had come to the net and by the end of the session eight Carp had been taken. A good day for Toy with the best fish well into double figures!

A party from Plymouth fished pegs 1 to 6 with several Carp taken as well as some large Roach and a couple of nice Skimmers.

Rod Metcalf fished various pegs during short visits and connected with Carp, Roach and Skimmers.

On the Specimen Lake Carp also came to the bank.

Dillon Hughes fished a session from peg 9 and broke his personal best not once but twice!
Fishing a single Cell boilie mid water Hughes banked his first double within an hour of arriving. Shortly afterwards his alarms screamed off again and this time a fine Mirror of 24lbs 0oz came to the net, an excellent personal best weight!

Dillon Hughes visited peg 9 at Town Parks Fishery and banked this fine Mirror Carp of 24lbs 0oz, his personal best! The fish fell to a Cell boilie and was one of two banked during Hughes’s session.

Nick Solomon fished peg 9 earlier in the week and was rewarded with two excellent  ondition Commons of 20lbs 0oz and 16lbs 14oz! Both Solomon’s fish fell to Cell boilies doubled up with coconut cream!

Paignton rod Nick Solomon chose peg 9 for a session at Town Parks Fishery and was rewarded with this impressive Common Carp of 20lbs dead. 

Paignton rod John Hannaford also took two doubles from peg 10. Hannaford fished Cell with white pop up’s mid water.

On the opposite bank Regular Mark Warren once again banked fish from peg 1. Warren fished artificial sweetcorn and banked two Carp, a nice Leather of 18lbs 2oz and a Common of 14lbs dead.

Town Parks Fishery regular Mark Warren banked this fine Leather Carp from peg 1. The fish fell to two pieces of artificial sweetcorn offered mid water.

Most fish have come from the deeper water pegs although some very large Carp have been spotted behind the blue rope feeding in the margins!

The Fishery is open every day over the Half Term Holiday.

Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 3/2



The Specimen Lake at Town Parks Fishery provided excellent sport from most of the deeper water pegs.

Cornwall rod Vincent Plume fished peg 14 during his first visit to the Fishery. Despite atrocious weather conditions Plume persevered, refreshing and moving baits near any movement in the water. His efforts paid off when he hooked into, and landed a beautiful Ghost Carp of 21lbs 4oz beating his previous best by some 10lbs! The fish fell to a spicy squid boilie.

Cornwall rod Vincent Plume enjoyed his first visit to Town Parks Fishery banking this fine personal best Ghost Carp. The fish tipped the scales at 21lbs 4oz and fell to a spicy squid boilie.
 
Regular Mark Warren fished artificial sweetcorn close to the tree on peg 1 and banked two Carp, a nice Leather of 17lbs 2oz and a Common of 14lbs.

Town Parks Fishery regular Mark Warren continued his good run of fish banking two Carp from peg 1. The fish fell to doubled up artificial sweecorn offered near the Willow.

 After a 7 month layoff, Paignton rod Bob Ineson returned to fishing and followed Warren into peg 1 and he also banked two Carp, the best 17lbs 0oz, which fell to the same tactic! The first fish was in the net within 20 minutes of casting out!

Returning to fishing after a 7 Month layoff Bob Ineson showed he still knows how to do it banking two Carp from peg 1, the first within 20 minutes! Both fish were around the 16lbs mark and fell to artificial corn offered mid water.
 
Peg 2 saw Day angler John Webster fish small white wafters mid water. Webster banked two Carp during the afternoon, both fish in fine condition and around the 17lbs mark.

John Hannaford fished overnight from peg 10 placing small white pop ups mid water.
Hannaford banked two Carp to 15lbs 1oz and lost another two fish at the net!

On the top Match Lake fishing proved a little more difficult due to the inclement weather conditions, although Carp did make an appearance from deeper water pegs. Silvers also showed sporadically and a couple of very nice Crucians were reported from peg 1 falling to maggot.
