Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 26/09

A better week of catches at Town Parks Fishery saw most anglers connecting with fish.

The top Match Lake continued to provide the faster sport with good bags of both Carp and Silvers reported.

Early morning and evening sessions saw the better fishing along the dam wall with Carp coming on the feed along the bar between the islands. Coarse pellet on the waggler proved effective as did feeders cast close to the islands.

Visitor Vic Sadler took 8 Carp to the 8lb mark on pellet from peg 16 he also lost 3 at the net!

The lower Specimen Lake continued to provide good sport with the fish moving around most pegs.

Regular Kevin Locke banked three Carp to 16lbs 2oz and lost another three from peg 12.

Plymouth rod Simon Goddard found the fish hesitant to feed in front of peg 3 with continual “liners” and runs which did not connect. Eventually Goddard connected with a fish and banked a fine looking 16lbs 1oz Mirror which had fallen for luncheon meat.

Liskeard angler Guy Mitchell took two nice Catfish of 21lbs 4oz and 19lbs 8oz on halibut pellet tipped with corn from peg 8. Mitchell also banked two Carp, both Mirrors, of 20lbs 4oz and 17lbs 5oz which took red sauce boilies.

Regular visitor Chris Wilson set up on peg 14 with two friends on the pegs either side. While Wilson kept an eye on one of the pegs whilst the angler answered the call of nature one of the rods screamed off and he banked a fine 20lbs 2oz Mirror much to the surprise of the returning angler! During the evening Wilson also banked another Mirror of 20lbs 4oz but on his own gear! A red hot chilli boilie proved irresistible.

The penultimate match in the Torbay Angling sponsored Carp League saw Julian Hatton run out winner with four Carp from peg 10 – All to fish for in the final match!

The £200 Fishery cash prize for the next Carp over 30lbs, banked, weighed and witnessed has still to be collected by a lucky angler!

None of the 30lbs+ known to be in the lake have showed themselves recently but they should be on top weight at the moment.

Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 19/9

Another busy week at Town Parks saw some very good catches from both lakes.
The lower Specimen Lake saw large fish patrolling the margins during the day and a flurry of activity with fish moving around in front of most pegs during the night.

Local rod Neil Loveridge visited peg 5 with his son and was only just setting up when his rod, cast to the central bar, screamed off. After a lengthy battle Loveridge banked a fine Mirror Carp which tipped the scales at a personal best 26lb 1oz. Unfortunately his camera was at the bottom of his unpacked bag and, not wanting to stress the fish, he returned it to the lake without a picture! A hot chilli pop up boilie proved successful.

Another quick catch went to Andy Toffolo who fished peg 2. Within 5 minutes of casting towards the main island he connected with a fine condition Common Carp of 15lbs 1oz. Corn the bait.

Catfish continued to be banked but mainly smaller ones feeding up for the Winter.
Halibut pellet tipped with artificial pop up sweet corn the best bait.

On the top Match Lake fishing continued to be “peggie” but the Carp were showing in better numbers.
Early evening sessions produced the better fishing with the dam wall pegs remaining very productive whilst the deeper water sides of the islands also producing multiple catches.

Plymouth rods Mike Willoughby and Derek Wills fished an overnighter from 10 and 11 and banked 41 Carp between them. The fish fell to a variety of baits with the best of the bunch a fine Common of 12lbs 4oz.
Silvers are still showing well although some have gone deeper as the water temperature starts to drop slightly.

Town Parks Fishery Catch Report w/e 12/09

The top Match Lake at Town Parks Fishery continued to produce some great bags of Carp and Silvers. Although the peg choice was important most pegs fished well.
The sheltered pegs, 1 to 6, saw medium bags of silvers with a few decent Carp taken. The dam wall pegs tended to fish better later in the day, some anglers taking few Carp during the day but 10 to 20 fish in a couple of hours as the sun dropped!

Visitor Martin Weedon banked a fine Roach which fell to red maggot from peg 5 and tipped the scales at 2lbs 9oz! Weedon estimated a 50lbs bag of Silvers.

Mike Tooley fished an overnighter and banked 41 Carp to 9lbs 8oz from peg 10. Fishing coarse pellet on the waggler Tooley had to wind in one rod as he kept getting double catches!

The lower Specimen Lake proved very difficult this week with anglers frustrated with “liners” but the fish staying off the feed!

During the recent holidays the lake has been full most of the time with large amounts of bait used. Having checked the last three years catch reports the catches on this week always dropped dramatically from the previous weeks. It is almost certainly due to over feeding which, if the previous years are anything to go by, will return to normal over the next week or so!

Some anglers did connect with fish, Ashley Kelly taking three Mirrors from peg 6 on maggot. Wolverhampton rod Brain Gibson visited peg 14 and took two nice Mirrors of 21lbs 3oz and 15lbs 6oz. Both fish were taken tight in the margin and fell to pineapple boilies. Guy Weston from Redruth took a nice Catfish which tipped the scales at 19lbs 4oz. Weston fished halibut pellet tipped with artificial sweet corn from peg 12.

With Autumn on its way the Catfish will soon be feeding up ready for their hibernation from the end of November.
Some top weight fish will be coming to the bank over the coming weeks!

The onsite shop is open daily from 7.00 a. m.

Town Parks Fishing Catch Report w/e 5/9

A week of changeable weather conditions provided testing fishing conditions at Town Parks Fishery.

The top Match Lake saw anglers taking medium bags of both Silvers and Carp but the lake remained very “peggy”.
The dam wall pegs saw some Carp coming to the bank but not in the numbers seen recently. The fish were moving around but were hesitant to feed heavily.
Silvers, including some very large Bream showed from most pegs although anglers had to work hard for the bites.

On the lower Specimen Lake the Catfish continued to show in numbers.
Ashley Kelly banked a beauty of 26lbs 4oz from peg 6. After an initial screaming run at 4 a.m. the fish took 45 minutes to get to the net! Strawberry boilies proved irresistible.
Camborne rod Phil Rodgers visited peg 16 and fished halibut pellet tight to the margin near the outflow!
In the early evening, after his bobbin had moved continually for 15 minutes, Rodgers had “the run of his life” but was unable to stop the fish running around the back of the main island! After releasing the pressure the fish came free and eventually took the net.
The very plump Catfish tipped the scales at 23lbs 5oz!
During his session Rodgers also banked two nice Carp, a Mirror of 21lbs 3oz and a Common of 19lbs 9oz.
Local rod Lewis Harding fished peg 10 and had a brilliant 24hrs taking 8 Carp. Girlfriend Emma Paris banked the prettiest fish a lovely Linear of 14lbs 8oz her first ever fish!!
The haul all fell to banana boilies offered to the main island.

Generally fishing is testing with the anglers doing their watercraft taking the spoils!

The Saturday Club meets again tomorrow for a 9 a.m. ‘til 1 p.m. session.

Town Parks Fishery - Catch Report w/e 29/08

Plenty of action on both lakes at Town Parks Fishery saw anglers having great sport.

The top Match Lake continued to fish very well with both Silvers and Carp coming to the bank in numbers.
Local rod John Stevens had a great day taking a large bag of Silvers on the maggot then banking 15 Carp to 8lbs 3oz on the pellet waggler.
Fishing from peg 10 Stevens Carp fell to banded pellet and came from tight to the side of the main island whilst most of the Silvers were taken mid water.
Anglers along the dam wall also saw plenty of action with the Carp coming to the bank in numbers.
Brian Gadd took 35 during a night session that saw fish to the 10lbs mark! Once again coarse pellet proved successful although some fish fell to small strawberry boilies!

On the lower Specimen Lake the sport was a little slower although the Catfish continued to produce excellent fishing!

Exeter rods Steve Roberts and Andy Smart fished and overnighter from pegs 4 and 5.
Fishing halibut pellet and cell boilies both anglers banked Catfish to 22lbs 5oz although three fish were lost after breaking free!
Two “massive” Cats also escaped the rod of Plymouth rod Richard Jenkins who lost the fish after epic battles which resulted with the fish snagging the lines and snapping off!
Catfish runs are often very fast after the fish has played with the bait for a while. Anglers see their droppers moving slightly several times while the fish checks out the bait. Suddenly the Cat will pick up the bit and run, usually towards their lair or around the nearest snag! If you are not quick enough to pull the hook home and tighten the line you are almost certainly going to loose the fish! Once hooked the fish will often shake its head to try to “grind” through the line – several 25lb leaders have been easily parted recently!
The Town Parks Saturday club kicks off tomorrow with juniors, or anybody who would like to try their hand at fishing, enjoying a tutored session with all bait and tackle supplied.
