Great sport was reported from both lakes at Town
Parks Fishery this week.
Undoubted catch of the week was by Plymouth rod Alan
Day fishing peg 5 on the Specimen Lake.
Day was float fishing for Roach with corn when he
hooked into something big!
After a 25 minute master class of “how to play a
fish” Day had a 26lbs 2oz Catfish on the bank. What made the catch so
remarkable was the fact that Day was using a 12ft match rod with 5lb main line,
a 4lb hooklink and size 14 hook!
Luckily the fish was hooked in the corner of it’s
mouth just clear of it’s pads which would have almost certainly parted the
line. This was Days first ever Catfish and personal best weight.

Other notable catches this week were a fine 25lbs
4oz Mirror brought to the bank by Somerset rod Tim Reynolds who fished a Cell
boilie from peg 14.
Jamie Greatorex celebrated his 13th
birthday taking his first ever fish, a Roach followed by numerous others
eventually banking his first Catfish of 2lbs!!
Olly Barnett banked a couple of Carp from peg two
fishing imitation foam pop ups!
Andrew Willison visited from the USA and banked his
first Carp. The ghostie tipped the scales at 14lbs 14oz!

Two visiting anglers, John and Sean, visited peg 15
for 24 hours and caught 3 mirrors freelining luncheon meat on size 10 hooks. As
they netted the second mirror, imagine their surprise to find a second mirror
of similar size was in the net as well!
Sophie, Haley and Kelsey Batt fished a whip with dad
Gordon and took over 21lbs of Silvers on maggot.
The top Match Lake provided good bags of Carp and
Silvers although spawning took place and knocked them off the feed at times.
The annual Seafield Anglers versus The Derbyshire
Dabblers memorial match took place in overcast conditions. Fishing proved
difficult at times but fish did come to the scales resulting with the Dabblers
taking the trophy for the second year running!
Carp were taken from the surface with biscuit in
numbers with up to 31 fish reported banked during a single session!
Fish on both lakes have now spawned so sport should
return to normal by the weekend.
